Meet Mr. Puggle

A while back I asked people to send in photos and stories of their designer breeds. I received this great e-mail from Jennifer, who describes herself as "the lady that feeds Mr. Puggle."

Of course, a puggle is part pug (one of my favorites!) and part beagle.

Here's Jennifer's note: "Meet Mr. Puggle, the cutest puggle ever! He is a wild and crazy south side Chicago dog. He has his own blog at www.mrpuggle.blogspot.com Thanks for the offer to feature our designer dogs."

He also offers plenty of items through Cafe Press with his image on it, including this portrait throw pillow ($18.99) and a St. Patrick's Day Classic Thong ($10.99). Now, that's love.

So-called "designer breeds are just MUTTS. Furthermore, they encourage and promote backyard breeding by people who have no business putting dogs together that have had no genetic testing. The assumption that you will get a nice dog by putting two purebreds together is absurd. While you may get a healthy dog, and stress MAY, you will not ever be guaranteed good temperament or better longevity. It is far better to adopt a mystery mutt than to support puppy mills (yes these mutts come from mills most of the time) or backyard breeders. If you want a certain breed, do your research and contact the breed club for a referral to a professional. And even then, you will want to investigate the breeder. People take more time to buy a car than they do a pet which will typically last longer than a car and have contact with family and people all their lives-at least we hope so.
