In each issue of Delaware Pets, we have featured an animal rescue or foster program. In December, we featured LaMancha Animal Rescue, a nonprofit in Unionville, Pa., that offers shelter for horses, Karelian bear dogs and other pooches and cats, and occasionally, goats and exotic animals.
The connections these shelters and groups provide to the animal lovers who seek them out always leave me with a sense of awe. Here's the latest connection, courtesy of Angela Maria Liberatore, who sent these photos and this note:
"Over the years, my husband and I have adopted three dogs from LaMancha. The oldest, 13 years old, is a golden retriever; the black & white is a 7-year-old Karelian Bear dog (who is in both photos clowning around); and the last one we adopted three months ago is now 13 months old and is a black lab mix.
"Some day, we will adopt two kittens from LaMancha."

While any time a "rescue" allows a dog to remain at their site and not on the street or in an abusive home , it is better than the above mentioned scenarios, please look at places like Delaware Humane and Faithful Friends. These organizations are TRUE RESCUES , as we learned the hard way. They are much more honest, thorough and take the very best care of all of the animals in their care. They make sure every dog is healthy and fully treated before they adopt them
out. They fully disclose all information to you about their animals and are just phenomenal!!! We adopted a dog from La Mancha and she is the light of our lives!! We wouldn't trade her for anything!!! However, they RUSHED the adoption in a very manipulative way and when we took her to the vet , we realized why.... Our vet was very disturbed that they had adopted her out. She was a very sick doggy. I would not recommend this "shelter" particularly for families .
