Michael Vick's co-defendants in his dogfighting indictment are caving, making and taking their own legal deals. When Vick hired Billy Martin -- who famously represented Monica Lewinsky -- many took that as a sign that he would make a deal as well.
ESPN reports that lawyers for the Atlanta Falcons star quarterback are working on a deal, and they want their multimillionaire client to spend less than a year in prison. Vick is scheduled to go on trial Nov. 26.
According to a statement signed by one of those co-defendants, Tony Taylor, Vick was the money behind "Bad News Kennels'" dogfighting activities at Vick's Virginia property. That's pretty damning, and I'm sure the other two co-defendants will have much the same story to tell the court.
Vick needs to make a deal. Do it now and prosecutors will agree to less than the five years of prison he could face. Will they agree to less than a year?
It might depend on what else Vick is willing to do. He needs to volunteer to join forces with the national SPCA or Humane Society organizations to speak out against the cruelty that is dogfighting. Let him confess his sins publicly on "60 Minutes" or "Dateline NBC," and offer to cooperate with federal authorities to help break up more dogfighting rings.
Americans love someone who admits his faults, asks for forgiveness and works hard to change his behavior. A plea deal now would be the first step for Michael Vick on this path.

Michael Vicks should be jailed for longer than a year for his part in the hideous treatment of those poor dogs and that goes for his loser co-horts as well.
I hope to God he looses his career options over this mess he has created. All of those who participate in this type of sick so called sport are poor excuses for a human being.
Michael Vick should stand trial....taking the plea is the easy way out and he should not be allowed to play pro ball or be involved w/children.
I think Mike Vicks should be punished, but not go to jail. That space needs to be left open for rapists, child molesters, and killers! If he does have to go to jail, I hope it isn't for very long! I like animals to and don't agree to hurting them, but he should not have to do any jail time. Maybe he should be made to donate money to shelters for abused animals.
The above comments should also hold true for anybody that believes in late-term and partial birth abortions as a form of birth control, because they are just as sick. Yet many politicians believe this stuff should be ok. Just backwards that the treatment of dogs elicits a bigger outcry than these said issues.
MAYBE THE PERSON WHO DOESN'T THINK HE SHOULD BE JAILED SHOULD FIND OUT IN DETAIL WHAT HE DID TO THESE POOR ANIMALS. THIS PERSON CAN'T BE A PET OWNER!!! MY PETS ARE MY KIDS!!! VICK IS NOT RIGHT - THERE IS SOMETHING MENTALLY WRONG WITH HIM. MAYBE INSTEAD OF FIGHTING THE DOGS HIS ASS SHOULD GET IN A RING AND FIGHT. THEN MAYBE WHEN HE LOOSES THEY CAN SET HIM ON FIRE!!!
If he goes to court he will become a free man! Too many of his peers will be on the jury! Another OJ in the making!
Michael Vick ABSOLUTELY should go to jail! I say throw away the key too! These beautiful dogs have been targeted because of idiots like Vick. I really would like to see more done to enforce laws on the everyday people that do this also. We need much stricter laws on animal abuse!
