The First Words Michael Vick Should Say

Michael Vick, the former NFL star quarterback and the convicted dog killer, left a federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., early today. The first chance he has to say something into a microphone or to a reporter, his words should go something like this:

"I am sorry. I'm sorry I killed dogs. I'm sorry I had people kill dogs. I'm sorry I abused dogs or had them abused. I'm sorry I paid for dogs to be used in fighting rings. I'm sorry I encouraged dogfighting and attended dogfights.

"All of it was wrong, and I am profoundly sorry for the pain and suffering I and my associates inflicted on all of those dogs."

That would be a start.

Vick left prison this morning to begin the home confinement portion of his 23-month federal sentence for financing a dogfighting ring and participating in the executions of pit bulls who performed poorly in the ring.

Already there is word from the Humane Society of the United States that Vick wants to work with the animal-rights group to speak out against dogfighting among urban teens. Society president Wayne Pacelle told The Associated Press that he met with Vick at the prison after Vick's legal team approached him.

That's another good sign.

After all of those "I'm sorry's" are said and work is done by Vick to speak out against dogfighting, then maybe it will be time to think once again about football. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said as much Tuesday: "Michael's going to have to demonstrate to myself and the general public and to a lot of people, did he learn anything from this experience? Does he regret what happened? Does he feel that he can be a positive influence going forward?"

Goodell will have the only vote that matters on Vick's reinstatement to the NFL. And that won't happen before Vick's time in federal custody ends July 20.

Really people - would you trust him with your dogs?

He needs a job - any job - so he is willing to say what it takes to get a job........ he is a joke and any organization that associates with him will never see another red cent from many people.
Me included!

Mr. Vick -
Nothing you say would ever make me believe that you are truly sorry for your actions, just that you are truly sorry you got caught!

Go away!

"Michael's going to have to demonstrate to myself......."

Mr. Goodell - he lied to your face,
on more than one occasion. He lied to the public and he is lying to himself now if he thinks he has been forgiven my the MILLIONS of dog lovers out here.
I am sure he would do anything, say anything to get back his high life again - to be reinstated in the NFL - which should be a privelege and not sullied by this dirtbag - you already have enough of those - it would be a very unwise choice for the NFL to be associated with this POS!
Send him packing!

I'd add to that list all the cats who were used as bait in the training of the fighter dogs. Sadly it wasn't just dogs who suffered and were tortured.

Vick's legal team approached the HSUS and PETA looking for the best deal or for whatever will look the best for a reality tv show - Google: Michael Vick seeks reality tv show.
He thinks his story from his date of release showing him trying to make amends is worth $600,000.
Yes sir girls and boys, he is trying to sell the rights for $600,000.
This is one sic, twisted world we live in and it doesn't matter which end you start at!

This man should NEVER be allowed back into the NFL! If he killed a person he would not be, but our laws in this country make it so that killing MANY animals doesn't count as much!
I wouldn't support any team that puts him on!

I can't stand this guy and I love football. If the NFL wants to continue to have a paying fan (or 2, if you include my husband), then they'd better not reinstate this trash.

On a separate note, my family owns two very loving, very cuddly, very smart pit bulls we got from the SPCA. We've never known their background, but have had no problems. To think Vick (and others) treat these wonderful dogs so horribly is disgusting.

Jill, I could be wrong, but I thought you advocated anti-pit bull legislation in previous articles. How can you blame those dogs for their actions and then blame the owner (Vick) in this instance?

Malcolm Gladwell (of Blink fame) wrote a great article about how anti-dog legislation should really be about the owners. (Google it, please!!) Let's just hope Vick steps up and apologies, loses his NFL career forever and then never EVER owns another animal EVER again.

The plain fact is that he now wants to try and make money from something so henious????? I read about the Reality show he wants to sell for $600,000 - OMG - a felon should not prosper from his crime even after release from prison - EVER.

It is the DEED not the Breed.
Everyone should get that in their heads.
ENgland banned pitbulls years ago and the incidence of dog fighting and dog bites did not go down - why ? The criminals went to another Breed - duh.
In Italy they have gone over the edge with the ownership of some 60 breeds banned/limited - what the he//?
The Netherlands just lifted the ban on owning pitbulls that had been in effect for more than a decade - because IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE!
Wise up people - look at the progress that has been made with Vick's dogs..... I wonder if he has ever inquired about any of his pets????? The dirtbag.

He publicly apologized, was convicted and served his time. I guess that's not enough in the court of public opinion. I'm not justifying his actions but everyone wants people to do the time and when they do it's still not enough. How about the NFL players that beat their wives and never set foot in jail? Where is the outcry for human rights as much as animal rights?

He did his time physically, but WE will never forget it and HE will pay for it the rest of his life, because that is how human nature is :) He needs to make it right with himself and the big man above, all our judgments just make us feel better...

RIP pups!

There should be outcry for all the wife beating, cocaine sniffing, steroid using trash in the NFL
BUT - the wives know where the door is, they know how to walk away, drive away, get on a bus, go home to their parents, go to a friends, go to the police, dial 911 etc. but they don't......why DO they stick around with these poor excuses of humans?
And don't tell me the guys keep an eye on them - they have to go to training camp at some point!
Could it be the fame, the money, the high life they aren't willing to give up because the beater says "I'm sorry, it will never happen again" then bam up side of the head.
The dogs had no chance of escape and were tortured day after day - all reports said that those actions and the sign of no real remorse was sociopathic behavior - those types of people don't change - they just get better and smarter at hiding it.

Gee, Michael Vick and the shady HSUS - what a match made in he**.
The HSUS is a sham and operates not ONE shelter in the US - how do they become the expert on animal rights? How many millions do the top 3 administrators at the HSUS earn when the money should go to the animals - why did LA have to threaten a lawsuit in order to see just a fraction of the monies that people donates for Katrina and the suit was withdrawn when the HSUS said they would build them a new shelter............according to a report posted to a TV station in GA - they donated no monies to any shelter in the US last year!!!
And are trying to take away your right to own a pet! Frauds beware we are wise to your dealings!
