It's a question without the possibility of a satisfying answer: What kind of monster would strangle a dog?
On Monday afternoon, a security camera at a Centreville home on Dogwood Slope Road caught a man in a white shirt struggling with the family's 4-year-old golden retriever Kelsey. At 6:10 p.m. that day, the dog's owner found Kelsey dead underneath a large pine tree. The family's vet determined that the dog died from asphyxiation.
But Kelsey really died from cruelty. From meanness. From someone without a heart or a soul. From someone with a wanton disregard of another creature's right to live.
How else to explain looking into Kelsey's sweet face and deciding that he would strangle this dog that apparently was in his way. New Castle County police have determined that it is a trespassing case, and are investigating because of the violence involved.
If you saw anything unusual on Dogwood Slope Road about 2:40 p.m. Monday or soon after, please call the police at 395-8005. Do it for Kelsey.

I agree with Jill wholeheartedly. The person who did this to this sweet golden is worse than a monster. Unfortunately there are a lot of monsters out there. In rescue we see this kind of thing all the time. We have to keep reminding ourselves that there are so many more good people out there than bad, and it is hard sometimes. But - this horrible thing is one more very good reason to not leave your dog outside when you are not home. Or when you are home.
Exactly..."what kind of monster would strangle a dog"...this dog looks lovable and would not hurt a soul. I feel these 'monsters' should be treated in the same fashion..an eye for an eye, right?
this is just sickening and frightening... if they did this to a dog, imagine what they wouold do to a human being.
and the dog looks like a wonderful dog!! i feel for the family, and i hope they catch this sick, sick individual.
LETS THINK ABOUT JUST HOW SICK THIS MIND IS!! HOW LONG DID THIS TAKE - THIS SICK BASTARD HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO REALIZE HOW WRONG IT WAS AND TO STOP!! THIS TWISTED MIND SHOULD NOT BE ALOUD TO ROAM FREELY!!
An eye for an eye. I don't care what his reasons are, what horrible life experiences caused him to do this. He viciously destroyed an innocent soul . . . a sweet dog that would have done him no harm. I volunteer. When they catch him, I'll be glad to assist in administering justice to this cretin.
Rest In Peace Sweet Kelsey. Fly high and free with the other angels.
An eye for an eye. That person sould be treated in the same manner that he treated the poor defenseless dog.
This is an absolute tragedy. I hope this person is caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent. I know this family and they are wonderful, caring and responsible pet owners who take the absolute best care of their animals. When this idiot is caught, I will be in the courtroom speaking for Kelsey

I would first like to send out my thoughts and prayers to Kelsey's family. I am so sorry for your loss. I completely agree with the postings I have read. This man is a complete monster and definitely needs to be punished for his actions. I know that punishing him will not bring Kelsey back, but it will get one monster off the street. Again, my thoughts and prayers are with the family.
PLEASE let this person get the justice he deserves. Monster doesn't even describe him. My heart goes out to Kelsey's family...I just can't imagine how they are feeling. My thoughts and prayers are with them. And I do say he should get the same treatment....somewhere down the line hopefully he will. I'd like to strangle him myself. It is very, very scary to think that anybody could do this.....
I had a good friend strangled and killed a little over two years ago, where were all the comments then. She was 19 years old.It was a sick and Disgusting act to hurt a defenless dog. But get your priorities straight
My deepest sorrow on the loss of Kelsey in the worst possible way. I do hope and pray this monster gets caught and gets FULL penalty of the law. This person is truly demented. How can one just go up to a dog and brutally strangle the dog? One sick human being. May Kelsey rest in the fields of peace across the Rainbow Bridge. And may this person rest behind prison bars. Not just a fine or slap on the hand, go directly to prison.
All my best to Kelsey's family, I wish you God's blessing to deal with this very sad time of sorrow. More laws, stricter laws are needed in the prevention of cruelty to animals.
