I'm not sure who the bigger jerk is: Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick for having a home that was raided in a dog fighting investigation or Washington running back Clinton Portis for saying it's OK if Vick allowed the fighting to happen.
Dog fighting is a felony in 48 states, including Delaware and Virginia, where a police raid of Vick's home -- which he has since sold -- seized 66 dogs (one appears to the left), 55 of them pit bulls (some injured), and equipment that could be associated with dog fighting, including a "pry bar," which is used to pry a dog's jaws apart. To be fair, Vick is under investigation for his role, but no charges have been filed. He says a cousin lived at the home and he did not know he had a large kennel there.
But if you saw Sunday morning's report on ESPN, a police informant who has been extremely reliable in undercover dog fighting investigations, says he saw Vick in 2000 with one of his dogs in a fighting pit. The informant says Vick was betting big money on his dog, which lost its fight. The informant, whose identity was hidden and whose voice was altered, called Vick one of the "heavyweights" of dog fighting.
The Falcons -- Vick's NFL team -- says they drafted him in 2001, meaning the team can't discipline him for something he did before he was drafted.
Portis doesn't even have that as cover. "I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not," Portis said in a TV interview. "But it's his property; it's his dogs. If that's what he wants to do, do it."
Ah, Mr. Portis, dog fighting is illegal. I guess law school isn't in your future after you're finished in the NFL, which if you keep spouting stupid comments like that, might be sooner than you think.
Authorities in Virginia are deciding whether to bring charges against Vick for alleged animal cruelty and dogfighting at the house he formerly owned. Today, the NFL said it would make members of its security staff available to help with the investigation.
At some point, the NFL, Vick and, maybe even Portis, will have to admit just how horribly cruel and wrong dog fighting is to any right-thinking human.

I am disgusted, disapointed with VicK as a great loyal Fan!! What kind of sick person does these horrific things to these helpless animals. Vick has showned he is nothing but a Thug loser heartless, Monster, who has No Morals, No ethics and truly believes he is above the Law!! Dogs are known to be a Man best friend. In reality people who are men and a sports fan will continue to condone this kind of sick unexcuseable behavior only because he a Falcons player. Vick should be prosecuted to the full extent of the LAW with No mercy just like he had No mercy for these poor dogs!! The Law should fine him a great fine and jail him no less then 10 years in prison for the cruelty he had endured to these poor animals. I hope in good faith that there will be justice that the Law, jury find Vick guilty in all counts by sentencing him to 10 years in prison. The Law needs to be tough on these Thugs loser by enforcing the LAW to the full extent. I also strongly agree the Law should make an example out of Vick. It will show people they can not be above of the Law regardless how wealthy a person is and regardless if they are a celebrity! I hope in good faith that all us Falcons sports fans stick together by (NOT SUPPORTING THIS THUG LOSER VICK and his Falcon Employers)!! They should dig up holes all over his former & present house where the Dogs are buried, I'm sure they will dig up some Human's and dogs remains as well. Vick truly believes he is above the LAW. People we all got to stick together and demand the Law to put this sick twisted thug away before he becomes a serial killer!! Wow, I am really surprised that these sports players have no education, no brains, no ethics and no common sense. It seems to me that most of these footballplayers have been picked up from the streets without an investigation of thier back ground What ashame. What are these coaches thinking hiring these criminals. They should hired only middle class respectable players with no past criminal activities. My husband and my brother's are loyal fan of Falcon's and Vicks. Ever since this cruel stupidity has been disclosed my husband and my brother are no long er loyal fans of the Falcons and Vicks for they are disgusted and outraged of this kind of behavior Vick has performed. We are all animal Lovers. We have 4 dogs 4 cats in a large, lot home. Animals are so loving and sweet always wragging thier tails filled with excitement when seeing us. How can Vick be so ugly and cruel. His parents did an terrible job raising Vick, they forgot to teach him to be kind and sensitive to animals. This shows that Vick must have came from a Low income welfare family before reching to the top! Mothers on welfare dont care of teaching their kids any values nor respects towards anything nor anyone, nor pets! Vicks Mom was most likely a crack head, or even a Pot user just like him. All Vicks Mother most likely looked forward to the Welfare Income check, while her kids were running around torturing animals, robbery's and breaking the laws heaven knows what else.. What ashame, that we have a (HoodRat) for a celebrity Falcons player. I'm certain his team and coaches are NOT very proud of Vick animal cruelity, and him smoking Pot while being photograph. That is an embarrasment to the Falcons Team abnd his fans I'm sure. I certain the falcons will do the right thing by firing this HoodRat Thug. I believe this is one of the worst things a person can do. call me emotional but I cried when i read about this. some of my friends passed it along to me on myspace. I didn't even hear about it on television. but I was furious when I did find out. I have a beautiful 1 year old red-nose female pit. She would not hurt a thing, even if it were to seem like it. My mailman comes to the door all the time just to see her. The first time he did though he jumped back because he realized she was a pitbull. I told him sir please do not be afriad she will not hurt you, if anything she will lick you dry. So he let her come out to see him and what did she do? Licked him untill he had enough. She would not hurt anyone or anything. I believe thats how all pit-bulls are when they are born. The owners have to know how to raise them, for them to behave. If you are gonna fight them, then of course they are gonna be the worst thing ever! but if you love them then they are loving back, it's kinda like it is with humans. If the dog growls at something its not suppose to or does something wrong, you punish them. Just like if a child dose something wrong you tell them no or give them a little pat on the butt, other wise they dont know better! I love my dog as if she was my daughter, and i would like to be able to take her out more but i cant because she is stero typed because of people like michael vick.!. I don't want a fine because i wont get rid of my dog. My dog isnt liek the rest and all pitbulls arent fighters or killers, its how they are raised. Just like we were raised a certain way. I dont know about saying vick is a human killer or putting all this bull crap voo doo magic on him but I do believe he should do time in prison for this. Michael Vick is not someone that should be running around anyone's neighbourhood freely. He is a danger to society and to himself! He is sick and may need to be hospitalized asap! People who are clinically insane have more common sense then Vick does! Vick may claim he is not guilty and had know clue that dog fighting was taking place on the property he owned, but that just sounds like BS to anyone that has a firm grip on reality! What's his next crime going to be, rape, child porn or maybe something more original like a Burger King massacre???? Or in the near future, maybe Vick will just pull an "OJ" and try to convince the world that a white guy did it! Like most "celeb's" Vick went from rags to riches and still doesn't understand that spending money is a responsibility not just a privilege. He could have found a more lucrative way to earn cash if he was so hard up for it! I once thought he was cool but now..Vick just sucks!!

Wow. Michael Vick...what the hell were you thinking? He should be sentenced to LIFE in prison, he was harming animals, if not killing them. Just because he's a celebrity does not mean he shouldn't get time in prison. Those poor animals had to go through suffering, and even if they made it, they would still have to be put down because they are being trained to be aggressive and fight, so no one can adopt these animals. I can not wait until Animal fighting is stopped. It is a horrible thing to have, the animals are helpless and don't have a say in the matter. If they don't obey, they are punished, and if they lose they usually are killed, or punished very badly, and even if they win, they end up dying anyways from the fight. Please help stop animal fighting. Oh and Michael Vick...fuck you.
Why do these sorts of debates always ultimately end in an issue of race. Whether Michael Vick is black or not has no bearing at all on this incident. The color of his dissenters doesnt matter either. The only thing that matters is that here we have a sports hero, who, whether he likes it or not, is set apart from society as someone to idolize and for many young people, to immulate. This is no way to act as an athlete, as a role model, or even as a decent human being. Michael Vick and anyone else involved in this sort of cruel treatment to animals should be brought to justice no matter what color they are. Those poor dogs did not see color and neither should we.
Wow. This is horrible. I feel so bad for these dogs. There is nothing we can do now but man if I could say something to that jerk he wouldnt like one word of it nor one moment of it. One thing is is that he admitted it was wrong but still I dont think I can find it inside me to beleive he really means it or forgive him. If he was a dog he wouldnt want that done to him. What a low person. I cant beleive the pictures i saw of some of these dogs it breaks my heart. R.I.P for all those dogs who were hurt by this and pray for Michael Vick he gets some freaking sense knocked into him. Ohh wait no hes probally rather get knocked up. What a jerk!
