Why Cutest Cat Voting Had to Stop

The votes were pouring in -- more than 5,300 and counting -- and we thought we had a two-cat race for the cutest.

That is, until we got an e-mail -- although not from the cat above; that is peaceful Styro Dunham -- that gave us a heads-up about a technical glitch. If taken advantage of, the glitch could allow one voter to cast multiple votes. We hadn't seen any evidence of ballot box stuffing -- the number of votes had been constant since we started last Thursday at about 1,000 votes per day.

Although we had not seen any evidence of abuse, we could not assure the veracity of the vote. And while some might scoff that it's only a cute cat contest, we want you to have the utmost confidence in anything you find at www.delawareonline.com or in Delaware Pets.

We have pulled the cutest cat contest poll from www.delawareonline.com/pets and the tallies have been discarded. When the problem has been resolved, we will resume with one week of voting for the cutest kitten. It's time to see new cute faces, and it might be less confusing for all of you to vote anew rather than jumping right back into cute cat voting.

When the kitten voting ends, we will start over with voting for the cutest cat. All cats will start with 0 votes. We know that seems rotten to the cats that piled up so many votes, but it is the fair and the right thing to do.

We apologize for the problem and any inconvenience the glitch has caused.

You had a 2 cat contest because an email blitz was going on and a sour grapes loser made a stupid claim. Your site specifically said only vote once. I started the blitz for Minnie the cat (I am not the owner) and sent an email to over 300 people in 4 states. No one cheated. I am sure that Charlie's owners may have done the same. Your claim is ridiculous that you suspect that people voted more than once. This isn't American Idol.Plus you can check that by identifying the email. My husband says you just don't want to pay the $50. The nice thing to do would be to give both Minnie and Charlie each $50. Don't worry about another contest. Who's going to believe it?

The stinking News Journal's compute servers were over loaded by the volume of voters because they never thought half the country would be voting for a cat contest. The small time paper had to shut off the contest just to get their paper published.

As the owner of one of the contestants(I won't say which one!) I can only say that we were very excited just to have our cat selected and its picture posted online. It would have been fine with us to let the voting continue, but the revote is OK too.
For Heaven's sake, it's not as if the cats care!!

When you want people to vote, they'll vote. This isn't grade school. If it takes a script, then it taks a script. Don't any of you ever run for political office.

I think this is why so many people are angry at poiticians......
I.e. the end justifies the means.

Had trouble voting. The message said "You cannot vote more than once!" when I looked at the results before voting. Is that against the rules.

I know this might seem strange, but you hold this vote a third time so I can vote?

Turbo is by far the cutest!
